Afterwards, if the weather is nice, feel free to wander up to neighboring Albert Park, to enjoy one of Auckland’s most beautiful and historical inner-city reserves — a favorite haunt of university students. The summit is 196m above sea level and offers stunning views over the city and harbour. The Bridge Climb takes you above Auckland’s biggest and busiest bridge, rewarding you with tremendous views of the city from a unique perspective. When I arrived in NZ on my 3+ week journey around the country, I spent my first day wandering the city and taking in the sites after 24+ hours of travel. I agree, it’s not the best city we’ve been to but thought it as worth spending a day there.

Near Victoria Picture Palace, Kerr Street leads you to the main entrance up to Mount Victoria. The room itself was great. Parnell is Auckland oldest neighborhood and has a great variety of eateries with prices to suit all pockets. Also be sure to skip over the new moveable bridge, for easy pedestrian access to the nearby Wynyard Quarter area. It is one of the main travel hubs of the North Island but few travellers tend to spend much time here.

After taking in the Sky Tower from down below or up above, head on over to Albert Park and the University of Auckland. The Sky Tower is not only the tallest building in New Zealand but also the Southern Hemisphere. We stayed at Jucy Snooze in a family studio room. As you are making your way along Queen Street you can then make the detour to the highest structure in Auckland – the Sky Tower.

For those longer routes I would recommend an Uber/taxi or public bus. They have a locked room and we were also able to use their lounge facilities and bathroom. I've based this guide on the presumption that you have just one day in Auckland before perhaps heading off to explore other parts of the country. I would definitely head to the Sky Tower and love the idea of dinner in the rotating restaurant. While you can technically walk to them all, it can get a bit tiring.
